Yes, those places are nasty, they dont get any real care and attention, but they do get cleaned and fed properly- thats what I hope...

In reading this thread, pet shops like Pets At Home are always good in my opinion. They've helped me, many a time and have also sold me lots of pets. I've brought gerbils, rabbits, guinea pigs, fish from there before and they've always got the sex, health, and everything right for me...so I haven't got a problem with them.
I've got a slight problem with breeders though...as when they advertise in the paper, you never see what they are like, so you never know what you are going to be getting.
I've looked into rescues...and I've still not found one that's near to me or have got baby guinea pigs in...but I will still research on them.
Hopes this helps

Big chains like petco and petsmart are generally bad, but most of the other ones are fine. (i don't know if you have petco/petsmart over there)

Jolly's Pet food's is huge aswell, but they have guineas and rabbits together, but thats not bad because its company for each other and they cant breed if its a boy and a girl.

If you cant get another guinea pig, dwarf rabbits are great companions!Thats what I read in books anyway, Linda I looked on the link and the diet thing is the only thing I can see is bad. But yes, its only a dangerous last resort.

Bunnies are fantastic by themselves, or with other bunnies, but not with pigs. Pigs are way too small! Even the smallest dwarf bunny is still bigger than a guinea pig, they can easily squish a piggy with their big feet!
